Managing Temperature, Humidity, and Egg Turning

Proper incubation conditions are essential for the embryos to develop. The ideal temperature for most incubators is 99.5°F (37.5°C) with a humidity level of 50-55% during the first 18 days. During the final three days before hatching, humidity should be increased to 65-75% to help chicks break through the shell.

Turning the eggs is also a critical part of the process. In natural incubation, the hen turns the eggs regularly. In an incubator, eggs should be turned at least three to five times a day to prevent the embryo from sticking to the shell membrane. Some incubators have automatic turning mechanisms, making the process easier.

During the lockdown period (days 18-21), stop turning the eggs and avoid opening the incubator unnecessarily. This allows the chicks to position themselves correctly for hatching. The correct humidity levels during this stage soften the eggshell, making it easier for the chicks to break out.
